Thumbs down Spiderman 3 - BEWARE SPOILERS

Save your money. Dont even rent the DVD. Wait for it to show on TV...

OK, OK, it DID have some good action sequences and decent fight scenes, and Venom was awesome, but...

2 musical numbers: Kirsten Dunst should not be allowed to sing, ever, let alone in an action movie!

Dancing and strutting: Saturday Night Fever (yes, that 70's movie starring John Travolta) was bad enough! At one point in the movie Peter Parker, under the influence of the Venom symbiote, struts down the street (corny background music included) acting cool, winking at the ladies and shaking his ass. The hotties all turn and stare at him, some looking as if they are going orgasmic right there in the street (ordinarily this wouldnt be a bad thing, but the way it happens in this movie, it is...)

Way too convenient: A meteor crashes to earth, and of all the places it could land, it hits about 30 feet from Peter and Mary Jane...and they dont hear/see a damn thing! And the Sandman...At one point early in the movie before he becomes the Sandman, he is running from the cops. He hops a fence, runs through a field, and just happens to fall into a hole where some scientists are doing a secret experiment on sand molecules!!! Their sensors register an abnormality, but they just brush it off as a bird or something, without looking through the windows into the pit, then continue with the experiment!

Cheese and Sap: This is my biggest gripe with the movie. All through the 2nd movie, and most of this 3rd, Peter's best friend Harry Osborn has been blaming him for the death of his father (the first Green Goblin). During the movie, they fight a couple times, ending with bad-Peter almost killing Harry with one of the goblin pumpkin-grenades (after that fight, Harry looks like the phantom of the opera with half his face disfigured). And here is the cheesy part: near the end of the movie, while Spiderman is fighting Sandman and Venom, Harry's butler just happens to mention that "oh by the way, Spiderman didnt kill your father. I was cleaning his body and saw that his wounds were caused by his own glider. Dont blame Spiderman"

......

C'mon! Is that a cop-out or what?!?

So then Harry puts on his goblin gear and goes to help Spiderman fight the other bad guys. And here is where I got really mad...

At the end of the fight, Venom has been destroyed, Harry is dying, and the Sandman has just watched Spiderman take out Venom. He stops fighting and starts telling Peter about how his uncle Ben really died; that it was an accident. He was just trying to get money to help his sick daughter, blah blah blah, and the gun accidentally went off. At that point, the last thing Peter says to the Sandman is "I forgive you"...and then Sandman just flies away!!! Thats it, he just goes away and Spiderman does nothing!

So yeah, the movie was a real let-down, but it had a few highlights:

Venom - very cool. Spiderman needed a good ass-kicking, and for the most part, Venom definately delivered.

Bruce Campbell - he has cameos in all 3 movies, and this one was very funny (french accent, upscale french restraunt, mis-interprets signals from Peter while he is trying to propose to Mary Jane, etc)

Jonah Jameson, Peter's boss - very funny lines, as usual.

Eddie Brock/Venom - Excellent! Stole the show. Played by Topher Grace (That 70's Show), I think he would have made a much better Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire...

New Goblin fights - These were pretty cool. At first I was rooting for Spiderman, but by the time their second fight came around, I was rooting for the Goblin to win...

Did I mention that Venom was very cool?

So anyway, hopefully I've saved a few dollars for some of you. Dont waste your time with this movie.

What I didnt like was the way Venom and Sandman took turns to fight Spidey at the end. Venom kind of just disapeared for a time while sandy and spidey were duking it out. Perhaps he was taking a breather.

Oh and I am sure the girls were looking on in disgust rather than having some sort of orgasmic response. Mind you I could barely look it was so embarrasing so i might be mistaken.

Just cant wait for TRANSFORMERS!

I have to disagree with the OP, I saw Spidey 3 and i have to say i thought it was amazing, by far the best film of the 3. Its a Film your either going to love or Hate much like most films.

They created a very clever storyline that interweaves several Stories from the comics. All the characters were portrayed exactly how they should be protrayed, unlike other Comic conversion films where characters and stories get completely remade. Although it wasnt perfect to the original stories but to be fair they couldnt have made a story any closer to it.

The Bad guys had good motivations to be doing what they were doing, none of them were made as a stereotypical madman Villain, they have depth, you can understand why they are doing what they are doing.

The Film has some great comedy moments as mentioned above, the strutting, Bruce Campbell etc. etc. Theres alot of emotional Scenes in it too backed up by some good acting.

The CG effects were absolutely Amazing, Sandman and Venom were very well done. Venoms appearance drove the film to a whole new level and certainly steals the show from spidey.

On the down side the films does seem a little too long but thats due to the shear amount of volume put into it.

This film wont appeal to everyone but from a Fans point of view i have to says its well worth watching.

I saw it on Friday. It was decent. I liked the black suit way more than the red/blue suit, though. The plot was played around with a lot, though.

1 - spider bites guy. guy becomes spider-man.
2 - black shit comes from meteor. black shit turns spidey into emo spiderman.
3 - dude goes into ???physics testing area??? and becomes sandman.

Other than that, it was an enjoyable movie. If you're even somewhat of a fan, just go see it. Unless, of course, you're saving up for GW:EN.

I saw it yesterday and overall it was very entertaining. I thought the cheesy Saturday Night Fever bit was funny. Kirsten should not sing if that was her singing. It sounded like someone with a much larger chest singing to me but it sucked anyway. I know it had to suck, for her to get fired but did it have to suck so much?

The stupid butler should have told Harry about how his father died a lot earlier.

Also, I didn't like how Spiderman just forgave the Sandman.

The action scenes and CGI were amazing. I would say it's well worth watching on the big screen.

Should I spend the money on Spiderman 3 or wait for Pirates of Caribbean?

The one thing that REALLY got me worried about the credibility of this movie is when the grenade, (which disintegrates anything as proven by the attack on the balcony in SM1,) detonates an INCH away from Harry's ear.

And what does he get from it?

MINIMAL FACIAL SCARRING

That right there was 100% pure phail in a can.

It did have one saving grace though: the ultimate quote (and I am only slightly paraphrasing here)

Venom: "I'm gonna go kill Spiderman, you interested?"
Sandman "ARRRUUURRRGGGHHH"

Thankyou and goodnight...

I attributed it to the super serum stuff that he took to become the goblin.

Emo stuff was funny, not enough venom. Still good, but too much hype.

I didn't rly like it... My GF said she might watch it so I just said "eh i will take a look". I didn't rly like the acting, it's like anakin from star wars episode 1-3, although the actions were pretty cool. Agree with ract, not enough venom!!!!!

The big question is If Sam Raime will return, if he does Toby and Kirsten have both said they would do more.

I saw it, I like it, 3 out of 5. So what if Peter Parker turned emo for a bit. All I want to know is, who in the blast let Snow Petrol do the sound track for the movie? That guy should be kill.

Ummm if you payed any attention to the final fight scene in Spiderman 1 between the Green Goblin and Spiderman you would notice that the pumpkin grenade exploded at about the EXACT same spot on Spiderman as it did on Harry. Spiderman did not even receive scarring (probably because of his mask) but this would explain why Harry was not killed when the pumpkin grenade exploded near him. Also because of the Goblin gene he was able to heal faster, explained earlier by the fact that his head wound left minimal scarring.
